Inner Excellence Podcast
Jim Murphy
The goal of the Inner Excellence podcast will be to learn and share how the best in the world train their minds to focus, and how they orient their hearts to have a deep sense of well-being and joy. It will be the only podcast in the world that combines world-class performance training (mental skills) with how to live the best possible life, one with deep contentment, joy and confidence, independent of circumstances.
In 1996 I enrolled in graduate school at the University of British Columbia (Masters of Human Kinetics, Coaching Science). My research focused on How to Build a Championship Team. For my master’s major project, I interviewed 39 Major League Baseball GM’s, field managers, and other professional and college coaches. Every interview was in-person (except one) and I turned down interviews over the phone. It was important to me to speak face-to-face to the best managers and coaches in the world (at least in MLB), so I could be sure I understood every little nuance of what it took to build an extraordinary team.
In 2004, while in the solitude of the Arizona desert (no TV or cell phone, limited social life) I began researching how to have extraordinary poise and confidence under extreme pressure. I ended up spending over five years in full-time research and writing, interviewing over 50 world-class athletes, coaches and leaders in the process.
Now I'm preparing to bring you interviews from athletes and leaders from around the world, as well as sharing Inner Excellence tools, techniques and exercises with you in podcast style.
